The end of an era

The end of an era - the mini adventure is over...

Dawn BoydRockingham Speedway circuit in Corby was the location of the finale of the Dunlop Great & British MINI Challenge 2008, where Andover girl racer Dawn Boyd managed to claw back some hard earned points.

Dawn finished 8th 7th and 6th in the final 3 races and survived a half spin in the wet, yet she gained enough points to achieve a draw for 2nd place in the girls trophy.

It's been a disappointing season for Dawn, with the first race of the season bringing a broken gearbox and a crash, it seemed the season was doomed from the start.  The races at Pembrey provided a 4th, 6th & 6th places then a crash, she was hit in the side at Croft, the car had a fuel leak at Castle
Combe and only Donington, Brands Hatch and Rockingham saw her finish all the races with no damage!

With last years results Dawn expected to improve performance with her experience and bring some good results in 2008, but it was not to be and now the money has run out.  Dawn would like to thank her supporters for this year including Rustlers, Mini Pirate and Nicky Grist.com but the funding just wasn't enough to continue.

However, you cant keep a racer in the garage.. through contacts made within the industry, Dawn has booked her place in another (cheaper!) championship.

She now owns a MkII 1990 Golf Gti, the original 'hot hatch' and Golf Gti Racing is confirmed for 2009.   Dawn says "its just as much fun, even faster and only half the money!" so it was an opportunity not to be missed.

The championship, as advertised at
www.GolfGti-Racing.co.uk, is another one make series with 2 classes running together, 8valve and 16valve cars, which has only been officially recognised by the MSA (Motorsport Association) for the last 2 years, and with grids of over 30 its certainly a championship to watch out for.

Once again Dawn is appealing for companies to get involed in her racing, the sponsorship/partnership fees have come down which is appealing to sponsors as well as racers.
