A disused shopping centre in Southampton will be demolished and a new pedestrianised street with shops, restaurants and homes will be built in its place.

Councillors have given the go-ahead for the former Bargate Shopping Centre to be knocked down paving the way for a regeneration of the Bargate area.

The new street will link the historic Bargate to Debenhams on Queensway.

A section of the old city wall, which has been hidden for the past 30 years, will be a key feature of the new development.

Pathways, kiosks and outdoor seating will line the wall.
